Networking Overview

Within the SC430 is a series of networks, all of which can communicate with each through the use of a Network Gateway ECU. An ECU is an Electronic Control Unit, not to be confused with Engine Control Module. An ECU is essentially a microcomputer node on the network designed to handle specific tasks.

These networks consist of:
AVC-LAN used to communicate between the entertainment components (Radio, NAV, AMP, Telephone)
BEAN used to transport switches, sensors, diagnostics, and status data
J1962 ISO 9141-2 Used as the service port for reading diagnostics from the vehicle
J2534 this is an API (Application Protocol Interface) on top of J1962 to provide for the programming of ECUs. This is used to customize features using the Techstream cable.

This is an overview of the network within the SC430. Missing are the BEAN ECUs and Service Port.
